Authorities have rescued a woman from a crash on the Kwinana Freeway near Baldivis on Saturday.

About 6.25pm, it’s understood the Toyota Hilux left the dual carriageway and hit a tree near the Safety Bay Road exit.

Fire and rescue crews turned out to the scene, roughly two kilometres south of the Baldivis BP fuel station, to help free the trapped woman from the dual cab.

Within half an hour, crews managed to pull the woman from the carnage and stabilised her.

St John Ambulance treated the woman who had sustained serious back injuries, she was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

The RAC rescue helicopter was deployed to the incident but was stood down a short time later.

Main Roads and police closed the southbound lane of Kwinana Freeway while authorities cleared the scene.

The closure caused major traffic delays for motorists traveling south with traffic banked up for several kilometres.

It’s not clear what caused the crash, police are investigating.

The crash is the second major traffic incident in the area in the past 24 hours.

About 11pm on Friday, a middle-aged man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital after he crashed along Kwinana Freeway about 200 metres south of the Safety Bay Road exit.
