Body found after home goes up in flames near Rockingham

An investigation is underway after a body was discovered during a house fire in Cooloongup near Rockingham this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Mariner Place near Mataitai Loop about 6am.

Crews from Rockingham arrived to find the home fully engulfed by flames which took 45 minutes to put out.

After gaining access to the house, firefighters found a man’s body inside.

Its understood the property was also home to a number of dogs which escaped unharmed.

An investigation is now underway as Homcide and Arson Squad officers work to piece together what happened.

Mariner Place is expected to be closed for most of the day.
