Update: Children caught up in freak fatal Kwinana Freeway rollover

Two children have been caught up in a freak fatal crash on the Kwinana Freeway in Ravenswood on Sunday.

It’s understood a white SUV was travelling southbound when it hit a barrier and rolled onto its roof several metres before the Pinjarra Road exit about 6:40pm.

Mandurah and Ravenswood firefighters rescued a woman and two children who were trapped upside down in the wreck.

The driver, a man, in his 30s, found several metres away from the car, died at the scene.

The RAC Rescue helicopter landed on the freeway to transport the woman, in her 20s, to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries.

Two girls escaped serious injury and were taken to Perth Children’s Hospital.

Police closed the Kwinana Freeway southbound between Lakes Road and Pinjarra Road, diverting southbound traffic onto Lakes Road, for several hours as Major Crash investigators spent the night examining the scene.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or saw the white SUV prior to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
