Family shattered after wall collapses on Golden Bay home

Golden Bay residents have had a lucky escape after the ground gave way and caused a retaining wall to fall on their home overnight.

About 8:15 on Monday, firefighters were called to a house on Crystaluna Drive after reports of structural damage.

The property, positioned on a hillside, received significant damage to the interior and exterior.

Crooked walls, shattered tiles, cracked mirrors and pipe damage was caused to one side of the single-story house after the ground gave way at the residence above, which caused a retaining wall to fall on the home.

A man who lives at the address said he had just left the bathroom when the wall came crashing down behind him.

The man and his wife told Skeer Media that they weren’t insured.

They remained without power through the night.

The Rockingham State Emergency Service was called in to make the area safe and weatherproof.

They were seen putting acro props in to support the structure.
