Baldivis bushfire downgraded to Advice level

More than 60 career and volunteer firefighters battled an out of control bushfire that burnt through 111 hectares in Baldivis on Thursday.

A bushfire Emergency Warning was issued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) shortly after the fire started about 9:30am.

Those living in a large area bounded by Mundijong Road, Kwinana Freeway, Folly Road, St Albans Road, Baldivis Road were told to leave or get ready to actively defend their properties.

Firefighters worked tirelessly saving properties as strong winds pushed the fire in a southwesterly direction.

With the assistance of air support firefighters managed to contain the fire by midnight.

Traffic was banked up in the area after police closed several roads including the Kwinana Freeway in both directions, between Mundijong Road and Safety Bay Road.

The Kwinana Freeway and all other roads have since been reopened.

However, motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

A bushfire Advice remains in place for those in the area bounded by Mundijong Road, St Albans Road, Bertenshaw Road, Doghill Road, Powell Road, Serpentine Road and Baldivis Road.

There is no threat to lives or homes.

Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.
