Man charged after dramatic police chase ends near Rockingham

A Rockingham man has been charged after a dramatic police chase that ended in Shoalwater on Sunday evening.

Police chased a dark coloured Holden Commodore through several suburbs after it allegedly failed to stop along Warnbro Sound Avenue in Secret Harbour about 6pm.

At one stage, the sedan collided with a 4WD at the intersection of Safety Bay and Malibu Roads before it sped off again.

Witnesses took to social media to describe the scenes, one user wrote “the car crossed onto the wrong side of the road.”

Another woman stated that the car nearly hit her two young daughters.

Two of the car’s tyres fell apart before the pursuit came to an end, narrowly missing a red Audi at the Shoalwater Shopping Centre car park.

The driver allegedly fled the scene but it wasn’t long before he was arrested a short time later with the assistance of the Police Air Wing.

A passenger, a man, was arrested at the scene but was eventually un handcuffed and let go by police as they established the car wasn’t stolen.

Skeer Media briefly spoke to the passenger at a nearby bus stop, where the man stated that he was “okay” after the ordeal.

He refused to answer any further questions about the incident.

The driver, a Rockingham man, has been charged with several offences including Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit and No Authority to Drive.

The 23-year-old is due to appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on January 10.
