Man dies in hospital after Cooloongup crash

A man has died after a crash in Cooloongup on Tuesday.

About 3:50pm, a grey 2014 Suzuki Swift, travelling west on Willmott Drive, crashed into a concrete power pole, near Grange Drive.

Firefighters assisted with giving the male driver Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) after they cut him free from the wreck.

St John Ambulance took the 40-year-old in a critical condition to Rockingham Hospital before he was transferred to Royal Perth Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The pole was significantly damaged from the impact and was left leaning.

Police closed Willmott Drive in both directions and cordoned off a section of the road as a safety precaution in case the pole fell.

Grange Road was also closed near Lyons Court.

Western Power were called to the scene and cut electricity to a number of homes as they fixed the pole and made the area safe.

A source told Skeer Media that it was highly unlikely the electrical pole would fall.

Major Crash investigators would like to speak to anyone who saw, or has dashcam vision of the Suzuki Swift in the area prior to the crash.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
