Update: Authorities unable to locate person in distress off Mandurah coast

Update:

Authorities were unable to locate a person in distress off the Mandurah coast on Wednesday.

Water Police received three calls about a windsurfer that appeared to be getting into difficulties and was drifting out to sea about 1:10pm.

Water Police commenced search operations for the windsurfer involving five vessels and three aircraft.

Mandurah Marine Rescue, water police, the Police Air Wing and the RAC Rescue Helicopter searched the area from The Dawesville Cut to Silver Sands.

Police said no person in distress was able to be located.

An ocean search is currently underway off the coast of Falcon.

It’s understood a member of the public reported a windsurfer they believed to be in distress about 2pm.

As a result police deployed search assets including Mandurah Marine Rescue, water police, the Police Air Wing and the RAC Rescue Helicopter.

Police said it’s not yet known if someone is actually in distress or not.
