Old Coast Road closure as crews work to remove rolled load

A busy main road will be closed in Dawesville as crews work to remove a rolled truck load at the weekend.

Old Coast Road will be closed in both directions from 7pm on Friday, July 24 to 7am, Monday between Estuary and Tims Thicket roads.

General traffic will be detoured via Estuary Road while larger trucks and road trains will be directed to use Forrest Highway and Pinjarra Road, potentially causing congestion in the Mandurah area.

It comes after Skeer Media broke the news a truck, heading southbound, lost a 200-tonne kiln while navigating a bend in the early hours of July 22.

The several metre long load has laid on the roadside since, with the trucking company and Main Roads working a plan to remove it.

The truck is also believed to have lost a set of wheels, more than 10 kilometres before the rollover, at a large roundabout on Mandjoogdoordap Drive and Mandurah Road in Greenfields.

Heavy machinery and cranes are expected to be used during the weekend’s recovery effort.

Main Roads is supervising the situation and will intervene if necessary.
