Power pole down, driver flees Cooloongup crash

A driver has allegedly fled the scene of a serious crash which snapped a power pole in Cooloongup overnight.

About 1:15am, police were called to the crash on Read Street near the intersection of Rae Road.

It’s understood, the car was traveling southbound on Read Street when it left the road and crashed into a wooden power pole.

The force was so severe it snapped the pole at its base which left power lines and debris strewn across the road.

The car landed on grass several metres away, between Exhibition Way and Read Street.

St John Ambulance attended the crash but was unable to locate the driver.

A police spokesman confirmed the driver had fled the scene.

It’s understood a man was located a short time later and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Rockingham Firefighters assessed the scene and made sure the area was safe.

Western Power was on site to isolate electricity and repair the damage.

Police closed Read Street for more than an hour as emergency services carried out their duties.
