RAC promotes Easter road safety with Forrest Highway pit stop

The Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia (RAC) is urging people to be safe over the Easter long weekend.

On Thursday, a pit stop will be set up at the John Tognela Rest Area located at the Corner of Forrest Highway and Dorsett Road, 36km south of Mandurah.

From 10am to 4pm, the RAC team will be giving out free mechanical checks, coffee, and treats for you and the dog.

The RAC model rescue helicopter will be on display for children to experience what it’s like to be behind the controls.

The RAC general manager corporate affairs, Will Golsby said, Easter is a popular time for holidays in regional WA and the road fatality rate is six times higher, people need to take care on our roads.

“Road trauma has a devastating ripple effect on the community and the fact that we’ve already lost 51 lives on our roads this year — the majority within regional communities — is incredibly concerning.” Mr Golsby said.

“Regional roads present unique challenges, so we remind travellers to make safety the number one priority – stay vigilant, prepare yourself and your vehicle before heading off, plan your route, look up and look out for other motorists on the road.

“Speeding and inattention are leading causes of deaths and serious injuries on our roads, so we are urging all WA drivers to slow down, look up and ditch the distractions.”
