Smokemart targeted in overnight Lakelands ram-raid

A Smokemart store was the target of a ram-raid at Lakelands Shopping Centre in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It’s understood a 4WD slammed through the southern entrance of the centre near The Coffee Club and Priceline about 2am.

The impact sent glass and debris flying several metres across the shopping centre floor.

One woman, who lives nearby, said it was so loud that “It sounded like fireworks going off.”

Inside the centre, the Smokemart store was visibly damaged with two significant puncture marks in the security roller door, which was ripped off its hinges.

Several items from the store were seen strewn across the centre floor.

A Lakelands Shopping Centre spokeswoman said it was lucky no one was injured.

“We are working to repair the damaged entrance and ensure the area is
safe for our retailers and customers,” she said.

“WA Police attended the scene and are managing the investigation.”

It’s unknown if those involved got away with any goods.

Smokemart have been contacted for comment.
