Pinjarra man charged after Mandurah CBD assault

Detectives have charged a Pinjarra man after a serious assault in the heart of Mandurah on Wednesday afternoon.

St John Ambulance and police were called to an altercation between two men on Sholl Street near Pinjarra Road, outside the Australia Post office, about 5:10pm.

Police allege a 53-year-old man was punched in the head during the altercation, which caused him to fall backward onto the road and split his head on the curb, which left him unconscious.

St John Ambulance took the man to Royal Perth Hospital with a severe head injury.

Sholl Street was closed for several hours as detectives probed the scene.

The 50-year-old Pinjarra man has been charged with Grievous Bodily Harm and is due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 31.
