A man has spent six hours up a tree in a standoff with police after a pizza delivery driver’s car was stolen in Dudley Park on Saturday.

The driver had just delivered an order to a Boundary Road home and returned to his car when a man allegedly threatened him with a bladed weapon and demanded his keys about 8:10pm.

Police were quick to respond and located the vehicle travelling along Crawford Street with the alleged offender behind the wheel.

Officers aborted a short pursuit, however, the Police Airwing was able to locate the vehicle before it was abandoned on Adair Road in Coodanup.

The offender allegedly fled and ran along the rooftops of several houses before climbing a tree.

St John Ambulance and firefighters were on standby as the standoff with police lasted six hours.

He eventually surrendered and climbed down a ladder to awaiting officers.

The man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital for a medical assessment and is now assisting police with their inquiries.
