Woman escapes burning home in Secret Harbour

Police are investigating after a woman escaped from a burning home in Secret Harbour on Friday.

Firefighters were called to the Gantheaume Parade property near Brunswick Street about 9:47am.

Crews from Secret Harbour arrived to find smoke billowing from the roof.

Firefighters were quick to get the blaze under control.

A police spokesman said a woman escaped from the home with non-life-threatening injuries.

He said officers were investigating a possible disturbance at the address before the house went up in flames.

It’s understood the fire investigations unit has been called in.

St John Ambulance were treating the woman at the scene.

She is expected to be transported to hospital for assessment.

Detectives and firefighters are still on site.

Police have closed Brunswick Street and Gatheaume Parade in both directions.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Firefighters estimate the damage bill to be more than $280,000.
